RCT is a self-governing institution independent of party politics. RCT is part of a global network of human rights organisations fighting torture and other forms of organised violence. RCT’s field of activity is the rehabilitation of torture survivors in Denmark, international co-operation with partners in a number of countries (in Latin America, Asia, Africa, the Middle East and East Europe), research, education and advocacy. As from 2008 RCT is an NGO in Special Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations

RCT’s work is founded on the respect for human rights and the dignity and integrity of each individual. Therefore, it is RCT’s proclaimed objective to help alleviate the human suffering resulting from torture – both for the individual, the family members and the community. RCT also aims at preventing torture. RCT seeks to achieve this aim by altering the mechanisms resulting in torture in each country. By preventing torture, we also ensure respect for human rights, social justice and a development towards a society without human suffering.
